In this livestream I will tell the story of my own journey of "serial entrepreneurship"—that's not really a term I embrace so much anymore, but it's a term that really opened up a lot of new ways of thinking about myself in the world when I first learned of it, around the same time that I learned I was ADHD.
I am offering my story as an example of how we can reframe—and even reject—the demands of the Executive Function paradigm, as we design lives that actually work on our own terms. I have learned that so-called executive function skills often serve a very specific set of values that I don't really share. I have also learned that much of what passes for executive functioning are actually skills I actually excel at in the right contexts, and especially when stripped of the shame of supposed past "failures." When reframed in the paradigm of design thinking, I can see my design and entrepreneurial skills—indeed my whole life—in a completely different and more positive way.
I am telling this story as the final part of the Design Thinking workshop I recently led in the Divergent Design Studios community, which you can join for $20/month (or on a no-questions-asked sliding scale plan for those living with financial precarity) here: https://www.divergentdesignstudios.com
A recording of the workshop is available to all members.
