VIDEO SUMMARY
0:00 Say Hi to Rob, Kelley and Brian
Aaron allows each Tiege Hanley leader to introduce themselves and explain a little bit about what they’re excited about going forward.
5:36 Big Topics at the Quarterly Meeting
Aaron lists a few important topics at the Tiege Hanley Q3 2020 business meeting, including Amazon strategy and a potential move to retail. Both of these ideas require a significant amount of analysis, like how much product would Tiege Hanley really need to manufacture and distribute? How many additional employees would Tiege Hanley need to add? All of these conversations are taking place this quarter, and it’s not easy.
8:40 Tiege Hanley Has Big Dreams
Aaron explains that Tiege Hanley isn’t trying to be a small, little company. They want to be a $100 million a year company, and that includes hiring the right people with the right skillset, like their new Chief Finance Officer, Andrew.
9:45 Question: I own a water filtration company that markets mainly by word of mouth. I have an underutilized web domain and I’m not sure how to drive traffic to it. I want to drive more sales via the web, rely more on shipping, and do less in-person installation. How would you advise I separate my retail business from my e-commerce business? Do I retain one website for both services?
-Joey Jordan
A: What Aaron would do is split up your businesses. Advertise locally for the installation business and advertise nationally for the shipping business. In terms of how to drive traffic to your website—consider starting a YouTube channel to talk about the importance of water filtration and share some of your expertise. By doing this, you start to develop your own personal brand. You could do product review videos and other pieces of informational and educational content and link every video to your website. Another idea is to open up your Facebook advertising spend. Target a national audience with your shipping business and spend more money on advertising.
15:12 Question: I verified a business idea using a basic landing page and driving adwords traffic to it. My issue is I can't get out of my own way. I judge myself too much if I am taking what I perceive as too long on projects within the business. I think this has to do with perfectionism. Any advice? My second question is about filming videos. I screw up a ton and I get discouraged. does this happen to you and if so, do you have any tips to get better at filming and not being bogged down by your mistakes?
-Rusty Shackelford
A: Aaron admits he’s never been a perfectionist. Aaron is more of the “let’s just get it out there” kind of guy because he doesn’t think perfect will really ever happen. Good enough is done. As for filming videos, it didn’t come easy to Aaron, either. Do not overthink it. Do not worry about perfection. Aaron still sees some of his videos and cringes, but putting the content out is super important. You’ll get the necessary feedback from your consumers, be it good or bad, and you’ll adjust and get better.
