Quitting your job can be a good thing! Becoming an entrepreneur allows you to have time for yourself and for pursuing your passion. However, quitting your dayjob to become a full time entrepreneur isn’t always an easy process.

When and how should you make this transition? Quitting your dayjob doesn’t need to be your first step. Having your dayjob while also pursuing your passion allows you to make a bit more money at the start. Your day job can ensure an income while you’re starting out as an entrepreneur, effectively becoming your own seed investor.

Yes, this can eat into a work life balance, but being an entrepreneur isn’t about work life balance, it’s a work life integration, and becoming an entrepreneur requires total immersion. And initially adding unemployment to the mix might not work in your favor.

The next step is investing. You need to find funders, venture capital, or even invest in yourself (your own dayjob).

But once you have your structure in place, your funding secured, and receiving a steady amount of income, then you can start entertaining the idea of being a full time entrepreneur. Just make sure you’re paying all of your bills first, and then you can begin to live comfortably.
