In This Video, we are going to discuss what Is ONDC and what is the Good & Bad Side Of ONDC.

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is an open protocol network that will allow any network-enabled application to explore and engage local commerce across segments such as mobility, shopping, food order and delivery, hotel booking, and travel, among others.

The platform intends to expand prospects for micro, small, and medium businesses, as well as small merchants, by assisting them in gaining access to online platforms. It is a project of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

ONDC is a private non-profit (Section-8) corporation formed to provide the public digital infrastructure required to enhance access to India's e-commerce sector, which is expected to be worth $200 billion by 2027. The Indian government hopes that by not pursuing a platform-centric approach, ONDC will democratise the country's online market for all customers and sellers, regardless of their size, giving millions of tiny retailers and mom-and-pop (kirana) stores an equal chance. ONDC is already owned by a number of governmental and private sector institutions. ONDC is now being implemented in five cities: Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Shillong, and Coimbatore. By October 2022, it will have expanded to 100 cities.

India wants to level the playing field for e-commerce companies and provide millions of small enterprises and dealers in the country access to the digital market. To that goal, the government has formed the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) as a competitor to platform aggregators like Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart, which have dominated India's e-commerce sector thus far.

The ONDC had a soft launch on April 29 in five cities throughout India, including the Delhi National Capital Region, Bhopal, Bengaluru, Shillong, and Coimbatore. ONDC is not platform-agnostic; its goal is to match online consumer demand with the closest accessible supply source. Customers can find any seller, product, or service through any compatible application or platform, giving them true choice.
