The founder of Alibaba Jack Ma has developed a business with many arms including, e-commerce, home deliveries, and even cloud-based computing systems. Despite a volatile relationship with the Chinese government that may have caused the billionaire to seems to have disappeared out of the public eye for 3 months late last year. The Alibaba Cloud announced in its December quarter report positive results. A milestone for the company being the first time since 2009, the EBITA (Earnings before interest taxes and amortization) provided a return. Alibaba Cloud services include big data, IoT, storage and security as well as for analytics it is the third-largest in the world holding a 9% share only behind Amazon and Microsoft.
The company reported significant revenue increases in 2nd quarter data up to the end of Dec 2020 rising by 37% to 221.08 billion yuan ($34.24 billion). The company’s net profit came in the same as for this time last year at 79.4 billion yuan. Despite the positive earnings reports the Ant Group shares fell ~4% in Hong Kong, an indication that the regulatory investigations into the firm may be causing concerns.
