The next big thing in China, Social Commerce and the key opinion consumer!

China has been known for being the copy-cat of the world, but it is quickly becoming a disruptor and innovator. Social commerce is where key opinion consumers influence their friends and fans to buy products directly within a social media/social commerce type application.

In Europe and the US, Facebook and Instagram and a few other platforms have dabbled in Social commerce, but in China, the space is simply blossoming. Possibly due to the high penetration rate of live platforms and video engagement.

Pinduoduo is one of the social commerce platforms that are doing particularly well and social commerce is being touted as the next big thing for a few big reasons.

First of all, social commerce gets engagement going around the products that people are buying. Second of all, opening rates from in-app messages are much higher than normal e-commerce emails. Third, and the biggest reason of all: Sales.

With sales possibly doing 35x on social commerce platforms, why wouldn't it be the next big thing?
