Solicited talk given in remote at the Cospar 2021 (virtual) assembly. (E1.16-0064-21)
It describes Mini-EUSO mission, its telescope and the first observations from the International Space Station. Mini-EUSO was launched in 2019 as part of a bilateral agreement between Italian and Russian space agencies in the Beyond mission of Luca Parmitano.
Science objectives include the search for strange quark matter, interstellar meteors, observations of meteors, Transient Luminous Events (upper atmospheric lighting) among which the ELVES (apparently superluminal rings expanding in the ionosphere as a result of an electromagnetic wave produced by lighting). Also nigh maps in the UV range have been produced.
