The road to profitability as a seller was not easy. I struggled to generate consistent sales and for two months, I was only making 2-3 sales per week. 1) First thing - accurate and productive market research

Your starting point is crucial in how you do your research, do you know what product you want to sell? Or are you looking for product ideas?


Also, your business model has an impact on how you do research, for example, drop shippers look for other competitors for product ideas, the stock seller usually focus on a specific niche or product, and resellers get big inventory and need to validate what will they sell, and what they will not sell.

Based on all this information you should know where to start if to look for competitors, niches, or specific products first.

Next is to filter out the high demand low competition items and remember we are not just selling products on eBay we are also selling keywords, so the competition needs to be measured under a specific search term and not under a category.

Once you find the selling opportunity where the demand is high the competition is low and you know what is the keyword to target is your time to make sure you can offer a competitive price. You don't want to be overpriced. In eBay of 2023 price played a big role.

2) Optimize your listings: Make sure your listings have clear, detailed, and high-quality images that show the item from different angles. Also, make sure the titles and descriptions are accurate and include relevant keywords that buyers might use when searching for similar items.

The disadvantage is the fact that we are obligated to give a certain percentage of our sales to eBay, even if we have a small profit.
