You can add a refund option in 2 steps.

Step 1 : Install the refund plugin in WordPress

To add the refund option, we need to install the refund plugin.

So go to WordPress Dashboard ► Plugin’s ► Add New

Now search for ‘return and warranty’

Now click ‘Install’ & ‘Activate’.

Once you’ve installed the plugin you can go to the next step.

Step 2 : Enable refund option

To enable the refund option,

On the WordPress dashboard menu, go to return request ► Settings

Now you will be asked to select the return request types.

Once you’ve selected it, click ‘Save settings’ and the refund option on your website is enabled.

Now if you want to set the number of days within which the customer can return a product,

Go to default warranty and next to the ‘label’ rename it to ‘Return’.

Now next to ‘Type’ select ‘Include warranty’.

And next to ‘length value’ enter the number of days within which the product can be returned.

Now click ‘save settings’ to apply the changes.

You can also rename the text which appears on the button by going to ‘Frontend’.

So this is how you can add a refund option to your ecommerce website.

Now once the order is placed, you need to change the status of the order to ‘completed’

Only then the customer will get the option for refund.

Now if you want to change the order status to ‘completed’ automatically, for the prepaid orders

So that the customer will get the refund option once the payment gets done

You need to install the ‘Autocomplete’ plugin on your website.

So go to WordPress Dashboard ► Plugin’s ► Add New

Now search for ‘Autocomplete’

Now click ‘Install’ & ‘Activate’.

Once you’ve installed the plugin,

you need to enable the auto-complete option for paid orders.

So to enable it, go to Woocommerce ► Settings ► Autocomplete Orders

Now in the mode option, select ‘All paid orders’ and click ‘save changes’.

So now you’ve successfully enabled the autocomplete option

And now all the paid orders that you receive on your website, will be automatically changed to the ‘completed’ status.

Now once the customer has placed a refund request,

You will receive an email and you can also see the request on your website.

Next let’s see how you can refund the money you your customer.

Now go to return requests and on the request click on ‘refund’ option.

Now you can see the order details of the customer and the amount which you need to refund.

To refund the money click ‘Refund’ and you will be asked to refund it manually or using stripe.

Here you can use Stripe to refund the money to the same bank account which the customer used to make the purchase.

Now if the customer had placed the order using ‘Cash on delivery’

You need to add a ‘Refund Form’ to get the bank details of the customer.

So to add the form, go to WordPress Dashboard ► Return Request ► Requests Form

Now add the custom fields like Account number, Account holder name,

IFSC Code etc to the form and click ‘save changes’.

Now if the customer had placed an order using ‘Cash on delivery’ option and opted for a refund,

They will be asked to enter their bank details.

Now if you open the refund request, you can see the bank details.

Now once you refunded the money from your account to the customer,

You need to update it by opening the request, click on ‘Refund’ and enter the amount

And then click ‘Refund Manually’.

And your customer will receive an email about the refund.

So this is how you can refund your cash on delivery orders.

That’s it guys.

This is how you can add a refund option to your ecommerce website.
