India is the largest producer of milk, the second-largest producer of vegetables and fruits, and one of the leading producers of fish and meat. Despite this India is one of the leading countries in terms of food loss. One of the important reasons for food loss is the lack of storage infrastructure. The cold chain sector can be very helpful in addressing these problems. The cold chain extends the shelf life of the food. The cold chain infrastructure is classified into 4 types in India-Pack houses, Ripening Chambers, Cold storages & Reefer Transportation. There are various subsidies provided by the government for the setting up of the cold chain.
