France Stands Firm With India Against Terrorism Piyush Goyal On India EU FTA Talks

Union Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted France’s deep understanding and support for India’s fight against terrorism, noting that France has also suffered from severe terror attacks, such as the brutal 2015 Paris attack that killed around 125 people. This shared experience has helped France connect with India’s pain and anger over terrorism, leading to strong bilateral support. On trade, Goyal updated on the ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks between India and the European Union. While there’s no strict deadline, a meeting between PM Modi and EU President Ursula von der Leyen in February set a goal to conclude the FTA by the end of the year. Goyal emphasized his good rapport with the EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, which is expected to accelerate negotiations. Both Europe and India show enthusiasm for the agreement, with industry feedback indicating mutual benefits. Goyal stressed that since both parties stand to gain, it’s their shared responsibility to complete the FTA swiftly.
