(30 Jun 2020) China on Tuesday said its Hong Kong affairs were purely internal affairs and no foreign force should interfere
The statement came it approved a contentious national security law that will allow authorities to crack down on subversive and secessionist activity in Hong Kong.
Passage of the law came amid warnings and criticism both in Hong Kong and the international community that it will be used to curb opposition voices in the Asian financial hub.
The US has already begun moves to end special trade terms and others dispensations given to Hong Kong after the former British colony was handed over to Chinese rule in 1997.
China said it will take "necessary counter measures" against the US.
"China is not a scared kid," said Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of China's foreign ministry.
China also on Tuesday expressed strong concern about India's decision to ban 59 apps with Chinese links, with the reason of endangering the country's sovereignty, defence and security.
India's decision comes as its troops remain in a tense standoff with Chinese soldiers in eastern Ladakh in the Himalayas that started last month.
India lost 20 soldiers in a clash in June.
The government says the banned apps include TikTok, UC Browser, WeChat and Bigo Live, as well as the e-commerce platforms Club Factory and Shein, that are used in mobile and non-mobile devices connected to the internet.
"The practical cooperation between China and India in various fields is mutually beneficial and a win-win," said Zhao.
"It is not in the interest of the Indian side to put artificial disruption on the current cooperation between the two countries."
