Muhoozi Kainerugaba is a Ugandan military general and the eldest son of President Yoweri Museveni. Born on April 24, 1974, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, he has held various significant positions within the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and has been a central figure in discussions about Uganda's political future.

Military Career
Muhoozi joined the UPDF in 1999 and received training at esteemed institutions, including the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK and the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. He has served in several key roles, such as the Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC) and the Commander of the UPDF Land Forces. In March 2024, he was appointed Chief of Defence Forces, making him the head of Uganda's military.

Political Involvement
Muhoozi has been a subject of speculation regarding his potential succession to the presidency. His involvement in politics has been marked by controversial statements and actions, including threats against neighboring Kenya in 2022, which led to his temporary removal from the position of Commander of the UPDF Land Forces.

Human Rights Concerns
His tenure has been associated with allegations of human rights violations. In 2025, he publicly claimed responsibility for the abduction and torture of Eddie Mutwe, a bodyguard of opposition leader Bobi Wine, which drew widespread condemnation from human rights organizations.

Recent Developments
In May 2025, Ugandan lawmakers passed a controversial bill allowing civilians to be tried in military courts, a move that has raised concerns about democratic principles and political repression ahead of the 2026 elections.

Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s career continues to be a focal point in discussions about Uganda's political future and the role of the military in governance.

The Patriotic League of Uganda is a civic organization that was officially launched on February 7, 2024, as a rebrand of the MK Movement—originally formed to support Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s First Son and Chief of Defence Forces.

PLU presents itself as a non-partisan civic movement promoting patriotism, national pride, civic duty, anti-corruption, and social responsibility among Ugandans. While it positions itself as non-political, many view it as laying groundwork for Muhoozi's potential presidential ambitions in 2026. The group retains the MK Movement’s signature colors (yellow, red, and black) and features a lion in its emblem to symbolize strength and unity.
