While Indians flocked to local brands for cleaners, mixers, juicers and baking moulds during Amazon Prime Day this year, Chinese brands still seem to hold away in high-value categories such as smartphones, TVs and Laptops.
The 2-day shopping event (Aug 6 and 7 this year) happens annually and is targeted mainly at Prime members. While Amazon has over 150 million Prime members globally, the number is over a million in India. This year was unusual because India became the first country to host the sale, ahead of the other geographies that Amazon operates in. The sale this year was focussed on getting more of India's small and medium sellers on the e-commerce platform.
