Amazon has made a surprise last-minute bid to acquire TikTok's U.S. business, just days before a federal deadline that could see the app banned from millions of devices.
According to the New York Times, the offer was submitted in a letter to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, must secure a U.S.-based buyer by April 5 to avoid a ban.
Despite TikTok’s 170 million U.S. users and its existing e-commerce ties with Amazon, sources say the bid isn’t being taken seriously.
