Amazon is planning to acquire Swiggy’s Instamart business.

According to confirmed reports, Amazon’s interest isn’t limited to just Instamart, it wants to invest in Swiggy’s entire business.

And it’s easy to understand why.

India currently is going through a quick commerce revolution. This sector is growing at a 77% rate per annum. Compared to e-commerce with just 18%.

And these quick commerce players like Zomato's Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart are slowly eating into the market share of e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart, so obviously they had to do something.

Flipkart earlier tried to acquire Zepto, and Amazon is now trying to do the same with Swiggy Instamart.

See, for Amazon, building a quick commerce arm from scratch would not be a good idea. The company neither has the expertise in it nor the time, so acquiring an existing player is the best bet.
